I awaken in the middle of the night to the sounds of wintry weather. The wind is howling, and the ice has taken its place between bedtime and now....I will be surprised if Mario has school in a few hours.
The girls' Christmas dance performance was a fundraiser for Camp Callahan, a summer program for mentally handicapped young people. One of the highlights of the evening was when one of the young men did his Elvis dance interpretation onstage. I was thinking how this is an area in which our culture has progressed in how we treat these folks. They aren't hidden from society, but instead are given their place. The dance group raised about $5,000 for the camp.
We had an enjoyable evening there. All 3 sets of grandparents were there, and Blake and Nolan took in the evening with interest....mostly! The night ended sadly, however, as we discovered that Hannah's dance bag, one I gave her for Christmas or her birthday last year, cannot remember which, was taken by someone. We don't know if it was by accident. Will have to wait to see if the bag gets turned in 3 weeks from now when dance resumes. She was not upset that she lost new shoes and 2 pairs of dance shoes. It was the stuffed puppy that she cried for. That girl is like Grandma Ginny....loves those stuffed animals. So I am sure there are more stuffed puppies between her house and mine. And as Grandma Mary said, "Who would steal a little girl's dance bag?" We all hope it was taken by mistake.
Brrr....it is cold in here. They told us this was coming. I kept hoping it would go south of us.
